May 7, 1942: US, Japanese Navies clash in Coral Sea
May 8, 1942: Coral Sea battle result in strategic defeat for Japanese side
May 9, 1942: Survivors are fished out of water after battle of the Coral Sea
May 10, 1942: US troops on island of Corregidor, Philippines, enter into captivity
May 11, 1942: Japanese Admiral Inoue Shigeyoshi orders last naval units to leave Coral Sea, marking end of battle in the waters
May 12, 1942: In response to Doolittle raid, with participating US planes landing mostly in East China, Japanese army launches massive offensive in Chinese Zhenjiang province. Thousands of civilians are killed
May 13, 1942: Rear echelon of US Army’s 41st Division arrives in Australia
